Karnataka: Home is where blaze is
Data from the National Crime Records Bureau indicates that residential fires in Karnataka have resulted in 1,953 deaths over the past five years, significantly outpacing fatalities from fires in commercial buildings and schools. In 2024 alone, 322 people died in residential fires, with women making up a substantial portion of the victims. The report highlights the need for improved fire safety regulations in residential areas, as current standards primarily apply to commercial and institutional buildings.
